Recently I did some research for my friend Mike who is going overseas to teach in Kuwait, to confirm what I thought I knew about pricing and features on cloud backup services. And it did confirm what I knew. I use SugarSync – and they do have better pricing than Dropbox. The SugarSync “free” account starts at 5GB of space, where Dropbox starts at 2GB. They both assume you are going to eat up that space quickly – if you are adding photos and videos. I have found SugarSync very easy to use and “sync”. SugarSync also offers additional space for free for referrals, as does Dropbox.
SugarSync really has more features and you can sync to more devices – smartphone, iphone, blackberry, tablets, ipad, etc. There IS an app for that. And you can upload via email if you need to. It is built in. So my overwhelming favorite is SugarSync.
I have added the plan info below for SugarSync and Dropbox for comparison and check out this chart at - http://www.sugarsync.com/sync_comparison.html - compares SugarSync features to 6 of their competitors, including Google Drive and Carbonite (I’m sure that you have seen Carbonite advertised on TV).
If you want to help me earn some free storage, you can use my referral code at SugarSync - https://www.sugarsync.com/referral?rf=d82fj5rq32wbg&utm_source=website&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=referral&shareEvent=217920
You, too can earn free storage by hooking up your friends with your referral link.
I would start with the free account and then upgrade when you have need.
I am happy to answer more questions on how it works. There are excellent videos on how it works on the Sugarsync.com site, too.
For a "set it and forget it" backup of your important docs, files and pics, SugarSync is hard to beat.
