Latest Website Launch

Radical Designs is happy to announce the launch of our latest project for The Johnstown Breeze online version at www.johnstownbreeze.com,

The Johnstown Breeze is a weekly newspaper that had a web site in need of an update. It had a logo that was lost amid the advertising and a somewhat confusing jumble of items that made it difficult for the reader to easily go to what they wanted to read.

So our first order of business was to change a PHP_nuke site to a Joomla 1.5.x site. Then import the database from the old site, all the while keeping it functioning as we created the new site. We did that by creating a new domain name and hosting space. Once the new site was ready for the launch, the current domain name would be parked on the new domain.

Our hosting vendor of choice is Siteground. We find that they are very friendly to Joomla! sites. Everything we need to do is readily available in the CPanel.

So what did we use to put the new Johnstown Breeze site together? Here are the particulars:

Joomla CMS 1.5.14

RocketTheme template Solar Sentinel 1.5.4, with multiple RokExtensions

Community Builder user management 1.2.1, with multiple CB plugins

CBSubs subscription plan management 1.0.2, with Cbcaptcha and plugins

iJoomla archive and search

Expose Gallery 4.6.2Fabrik forms builder 2.0rc3

Flipping Book 1.5.8

JCEditor 1.5.7

JomComment 3.0.562, commenting for blogs and stories

MyBlog 3.0.328, blogging component

Polls

VirtueMart 1.1.3 shopping cart

Wrappers for embedding websites

Banners

Advertising links from BurstMedia to banner ads

They wanted to build a loyal customer list that they could email newsletters.

So we created a solution using Joomla and a java script and Acajoom Pro.

One Stop Lab Shop.com

One Stop Lab Shop.com is the website for Analytical Solutions and Procedures, LLC (ASAP). Owner Mark Thomas wanted a site that would reflect the nature of his business, procedures for analyzing water treatment samples. One of his hopes was that he would be able to make updates to the site when needed.

We set him up with Joomla 1.5.x as a base and added several of our favorite components to get him off to a good start. Community Builder, VirtueMart (hooked to PayPal) and JCEditor all play a part in this setup.

Community Builder (CB) manages users and profiles. Mark isn't so much interested in creating a newsletter user list. However, when anyone buys anything, they are required to login, provide basic email and address information in order to complete the sale.

VirtueMart categories, product pictures and descriptions allow Mark to be as detailed as he likes about his products. VirtueMart is also sophisticated enought that it can allow coupons and cross-product reference sales (if you like this, you might like that). He can do discounts with ease, per product or globally.

Because his products are digital, we can allow downloads from a secure folder. The links are sent automatically from the sales email. Mark also required that his products be secured, so we set up his Excel downloads secured by DoneEx (commercial license required) and PDF's secured for sale by Secure eBook (commercial license).

Quick look at what we used:

Siteground Hosting

Joomla 1.5

RockeTheme Template

JCEditor

Community Builder

VirtueMart

PayPal Business account

DoneEx

Secure eBook

The coach needed a place to post all the things people want to know about his sport, like Schedules, Results, Records Links and Photos. Without being too time intensive to update and easy to maintain.
